Wondering what people think of Menards MasterForce tool boxes? Looking at this model for a road box/portable shop box. http://www.menards.com/main/tools-hardware/tool-storage/tool-chests... Wondering if a guy should just spend the money on a Montezuma box, almost twice as much by the way? Have few 1/4" but mostly 3/8" to 3/4" sockets, metric and standard. I know Montezuma would probably work good up to 1/2" but is their a place to put the 3/4" set?

I think i'd like the wrench storage on Montezuma box but like the storage of everything else in drawers. Will i think different once i get one? Been using this little thing which works surprising well, just getting little small. I also have 2 smaller boxes that go along with and i'd like to just have one for everything.

If you're wanting a cheaper than snapon road box, check out the box that Deere sells. Its not a bad box for the money, has the locking lid and everything.

My neighbor likes them he has at least 4 of them. He had one tip over because drawer would not stay shut and Menards warrantied it. NEILFarmer

I have seen them and would be interested in them as well. I do like the extra drawers in the Masterforce, the spilt ones. I also like the full closing top on Deere. I know someone must make them for deere (waterloo i believe) so i'd probably try them first, rather have black or red. I don't have anything against green equipment just don't want green tool box. Also think i could get two masterforces for price of one deere, maybe they are worth it, maybe not.

I agree on the split drawers, I wish the deere box had them but I put my own dividers in. I'm not sure what the masterforce boxes cost, but the Deere was around $700. I would prefer a blue one, but beggers can't be choosers right??? NEILFarmer

Masterforce says 299$ at local store. Can get black or blue if i order. Does Deere not have the 30" metric and standard Montezuma box or am I just not seeing it?

Thank you hayhauler

If you are using as a road box you do not want a split drawer set up as there is not much support for that center rail and the drawers will start sagging in the center. Also for a good road box you want heavy duty slides and not rollers for you drawers. If just putting box in pickup on occasion that box would work fine but not as a full time truck box NEILFarmer

Deeres shop boxes & triangle boxes look like they are made by montezuma. Part numbers resemble one another. pete37921x

For 99% of us the box you linked wouldn't last a month. IMP the ultimate box is a Snapon road box, next Montezuma. Brandon SWIA

I've got one similar to the one in your link. Slightly different. My biggest complaints. Lets too much water in, so I use a grill cover to cover it. Also, the drawers won't stay shut. I would prefer a box where they lock when the lid shuts. I usually have it up against the tailgate and that keeps the drawers shut. It probably rides in my pickup two months out of the year. I suppose going on about 5 years now. I mounted it to a cut up pallet and just set it in with the forklift. OK box for the money.

I've got a master force over a year now. I like it much better than the Craftsman that I have. If you pay attention, Menards will have some really good sales on them now and again. ponderosa

I have a 26 inch top box Masterforce in my work truck that has been in there for 60,000 plus miles. The drawers are still tight and they are all full. I have it back by the tailgate so the tailgate keeps the drawers shut. I have a rachet bar on the front side to keep it from moving forward that I got at autozone. I also have a truxedo cover on the bed to roll over when the weather is bad. binmover

Masterforce makes a good box, I dont know how it would hold up in a pickup though. (let alone any standard shop type tool box) The montezuma is great, ive had one for 8 years (whatever the company was called back then that was building them) its slid out the back of my pickup 3 times, rolled down the road and the door always stayed shut.. FInally bolted the damn thing down, as i am terrible about shutting the tailgate. Whers_the_snow

I have the exact box you posted for the same reason. It's an Awesome box and I plan on using it in my pickup this spring and call road chest style but am a little worried I'm going to overload it with so many tools. But that's my own fault. All in all it's a great box for a really reasonable price Dennis SEND

I have a MasterForce box in the shop, top is just like the one in your link and have a rolling bottom to match, very happy with the quiality, much better than the Crafsman boxes I looked at in Sears one day while the wife was shopping.

I have something similar, I got it at Menards, but it is not Masterforce. It is my top box in the shop and it works pretty good to roll the bottom box over to the pickup and slide the top box in when I need to. But on mine the the cross piece underneath the front of the bottom drawer is very light and easily bent when using in the pickup. I would check this very carefully on any toolbox I might use in a pickup. Whers_the_snow

and this masterforce box http://www.menards.com/main/tools-hardware/tool-storage/tool-chests...

look IDENTICAL so who is to say that the rest of the John Deere boxes aren't made by the same company?

I thought John Deere built their toolboxes on the same assembly line as the combines in Moline. Huh, weird. JK. Have you seen the Masterforce version of the 26" Montezuma triangle box? The stores never stock it but I'd sure like to look at one. I'm pretty sure it was like $299. I would go that route for road use. The Masterforce boxes are a really good value and built well. Wow never saw that, i was just looking at Deere Road box and not regular one. I know at one time Waterloo made JD tool boxes but maybe that has changed, maybe it never was true just something i read on agtalk. That is very interesting.
